ABOUT THE ALBUM

“I’ve wanted to do a christmas album for a few years now, and after finishing Teenagest, I decided that it was the right time to finally do it. I wanted to make an EP that felt like it fit in with the rest of my music, but still had a distinctive holiday vibe. I also wanted to try to do something more electronic than usual, inspired by my work on podcast themes, and by the fact that I’d need to finish it quickly for release in time for the holidays. It was originally going to be four tracks, and then five, and by the time it was done, it was 27 minutes of music over seven songs. I hope you like it!”

SONG BY SONG

1. LOVE LOVE LOVE (ON XMAS)

“This was one of the last songs written for the album. I wanted something that sounded very “christmassy” to kick things off. It’s about different things, but one of the big themes is trying to find your own way to enjoy the holidays/your life. If you don’t like xmas music, you don’t have to go outside. If you don’t want to see your family, you don’t have to. Just do what you want to.”

2. GREEDY LITTLE BOY

“Maybe the first song written for this project. It set the tone for the whole thing. I think lyrically it’s pretty obvious what it’s about! The samples here are from Santa Claus vs The Devil (1959).”

3. SUGAR PLUM

“This is me trying to build a pop song from a few small segments of ‘The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies.’ It’s hard to explain the meanings behind songs, and sometimes they can’t fully be put into words. It’s about pleasure and discomfort. Brian Church, who does backup vocals for the whole album, did an extra good job on this track.”

4. RED LINGERIE AND WHITE FUZZY TRIM

“Another song about celebrating in your own way. This was one of the first songs written. Features about half a second of a Realistic MG-1 keyboard, on loan from my longtime music partner Mike Gintz, who also plays on tracks 1 and 2.”

5. SANTA PLANET

“A sequel/sibling song to ‘Wizard Planet’ from the album Wizard Planet. The general sentiment is the same here, but... moreso. The funky bass guitar at the end is courtesy of Brian Church.”

6. THE GREAT CHRISTMAS AIRSHIP SAILS TOWARD DEATH

“More of a New Years song than a Christmas song. If the holidays remind you of the unstoppable passage of time, this is the cheery christmas tune for you.”

7. CRYSTAL CRYSTMAS SKY

“The last song on the album, and the last song written. I wanted to end with something pretty and something postitive. It’s about the specialness of the people you care about. Happy holidays!”
